Looking Within

July 12, 2009

Well this post is in response to a friend’s question. but i’m sure it is relevant for many!

Some time back, I was suggesting a friend to look within himself for answers to his  restlessness. Well this is something which we all feel at times.  This restlessness which makes us feel unsatisfied and makes us search for something. We may be able to make the  feeling  go away for sometime but it comes back again and again because we have not found what we are truly looking for!

All the scriptures have said to “Know Thyself”. but what is there to know? we may think we already know ourselves well enough. but whatever we have known so far abt ourselves is through what we have experienced. like we know ourselves through our 5 senses, past events and future ambitions. Our identity seems to be made up of so many layers which is covering up our true self. We r too identified with what is false that we can never find our true self! Looking within is to peer through the layers to get a glimpse of our real nature which is untainted and divine.

Well how do we do that?

1. Firstly we need to know that we are not this body, not this mind, not this emotions. We are the pure eternal Spirit! (For those who do not believe this, can take it as a hypothesis first)

2. Also know that there is a dormant energy within us known as Kundalini (primordial motherly energy) which is waiting to be awakened to give us our Self Realisation/2nd birth/moksha/englightenment!

3.Then we need to turn our attention inwards and have the desire to receive our Self Realisation. (This gives us the connection with the Divine and our Spirit gets awakened!)

4. Surrendering ourselves completely to the Divine. (our ego blocks our connection with the Divine)

5. When our attention is on the  Spirit within we receive so much blessings and joy!

Usually our attention gets too involved in our day to day life. Turning inwards may not be so easy at the beginning but be patient and steadfast. It is  like a journey which we don’t have to travel physically to anywhere, but a journey within ourselves. Our sense of self really transforms as we discover that there is so much more within us than we ever knew!
